Nancy Smyth, LCSW

Nancy Smyth, LCSW is a licensed clinical social worker in the state of North Carolina. I work with individuals, families and couples. I am certified as a Relational Life Therapist (RLT) therapist. This modality offers a common sense approach to building a relationship based on full respect living. I also encourage the use of mindfulness which I believe is useful when dealing with challenging life stressors. My prior work experience has been with Wake County Mental Health working with children and families in the child welfare system. My Past experience also includes working with military families coping with deployment and re-entry issues. I also work with blended families and am experienced in adoption issues. Challenges occur in all areas of life. Change of any kind is stressful even when it's a good thing. Family conflicts include parenting, child, couples, divorce and grief and loss issues. Grief and loss is a part of life. Whether it is the loss of a loved one or a job, it's still a loss that can affect our well-being. My belief is that clients come to therapy with issues they want to change. I also believe that life is stressful. Together, we work on accomplishing the goals the client has defined. I often use CBT and a Mindfulness approach but am not limited to these modalities. Group therapy: Group work offers a supportive learning environment. Participants learn tools and skills. They also learn from each other. I offer two separate DBT groups, one for teens and one for adults. I also offer Parenting groups.Group participants learn they are not alone in their goals and their challenges.
